Bhubaneswar: Addressing the inaugural session of the three-day-long 61st Senior Police Officers’ Conference at the Police Bhawan in the capital city here, Odisha Director General of Police (DGP) R.P. Sharma stressed that Odisha Police should work without fear or favour in a bid to increase public confidence and provide friendly police service.

In his inaugural speech, the DGP said, “Our endeavour should be to increase public confidence, to work without fear or favour, and provide a sense of security and friendly police service to the people whom we are servicing.”

The Odisha DGP also stated that anti-Maoist operations to be intensified, inter-state coordination and intelligence gathering will be given priority and police should work with transparency.

As per a press note released by the Odisha Police State Headquarters, Cuttack, the 61st Senior Police Officers' Conference of Odisha Police being held at Police Bhawan, Bhubaneswar has been slated from January 17 to 19.

Superintendents of Police (SP) of all Districts, DCsP, Commandants of all Armed Police Battalions, Range IsGP, DIsGP, Under Training IPS Officers, Senior Officers of various Police Establishments as well as the Home Guards, Fire Services and Civil Defence Organisation, State Vigilance, Odisha State Police Housing and Welfare Corporation, Prison Organisation and OHRC will participate in the Conference.

While the conference was inaugurated by the DGP today, Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik will grace the valedictory session on January 19. Chief Secretary, Development Commissioner-cum- ACS Home Department and Principal Secretary Finance Department will also interact with the participants.

During the conference, there will be deliberations on various professional policing subjects like Law and Order, Crime Scenario of the State, Left Wing Extremism (LWE), police arrangement for mega events, improving road safety, moving towards paperless police station etc. Issues related to State Vigilance, Home Guards and Fire Services and Odisha Police Housing & Welfare Corporation will also be discussed, the press note stated.
