**Rayagada:** Demanding immediate ouster of Vedanta Company from their soil and vehemently protesting against the Maoist-link allegations levelled against them by the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA), irate Dongaria Kondhs under the banner of Niyamgiri Surakshya Samiti (NSS) have resorted to a five-day-long agitation before Lanjigarh-based Vedanta Aluminium Refinery Company in Kalahandi district.
They have locked the main gate and other subsidiary gates of the company since Tuesday (April 25).
Earlier, the tribals of 108 villages under the ambit of Niyamgiri Hills in the adjoining tribal-dominated districts of Kalahandi and Rayagada had assembled at the mango grove of Jagannathpur. Later at 11 am on Tuesday, the protestors brandishing their traditional weapons and also beating their traditional drums traversed 3 km to the company’s main gate. They then resorted to sloganeering against the Central and State governments.
The agitated tribals also shouted that they would not allow anyone to touch their pious and most-adored Niyamgiri Hills. They even threatened to stoop to any extent if the government forcibly snatches away their sacred abode. They even questioned how they are Maoists as alleged by the Central Government.
They also claimed that their organisation is least linked with the left wing extremists.
Prominent among others, the five-day stir has been led by NSS president Lada Shibaka, NSS state level convenor Lingaraj Azad, local member Dadhi Pushika, Kumuti Majhi and Ranju Bara.
As per news update from ground zero sources, the gates were opened on Tuesday night itself and the company is functioning normally.
