Bhubaneswar: The decision of the BJP-led NDA Government at the Centre to shift Centre-sponsored Text Book Printing Press and LIC Zonal Office to out of Odisha location has been vehemently protested by ruling BJD Government in the State here and had its echo heard in the Assembly.

Government Chief Whip Amar Prasad Satpathy, “It’s indeed a matter of concerns that Odisha has been deprived of lots of its rights and dues. The glaring examples are not only shifting of the Text Book Printing Press. It has been shifted by the Centre and merged in Kolkata. The Government of Odisha has already provided for it 5 acres of land and also other supports. This will be taken up in the House for detailed discussion.”

“Our State Government and BJD has always been raising its voice against such attitude of the Centre, be it NDA or UPA. We have never remained silent on such State issues. Another example is that of the LIC. Across Odisha, there are about 2 crore LIC policy holders. The LIC Zonal Office was earlier in Kolkata. Now the Central Government has decided to shift it to Patna. But there is justification to set up the Zonal Office in Bhubaneswar. We have been raising our voice against such injustice for the interest of Odisha. People are well aware of it. The Centre will suffer for its decisions,” the Odisha Government Chief Whip warned.

In his reactions, Congress Chief Whip Tara Prasad Bahinipati burst, “Text Book Printing Press was in Odisha, but it has been shifted by the BJP-led Centre to other State. Has the BJD raised its voice against it? In Dhenkanal and Angul districts there had been ‘resam’ factory. Union Tribal Affairs Minister Jual Oram also shifted it to other State. Has the BJD raised voice against it? Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik is also silent.”

“There are lots of such issues. Many offices and factories are being shifted from this State to other State. Here the ruling BJD is boasting itself of being Odia and safeguarding Odisha interests. Pooh-pooh to such bragging!”

BJP MLA Pradeep Purohit commented, “The issue that has been raised by Government Chief Whip Amar Prasad Satpathy will be taken up for discussion. But, I would like tell that the LIC Zonal Office and Text Book Printing Press are being shifted from this State to other State due to lack of farsight and inefficiency of the State Government here. The requisite support for the Printing Press was not lent.”

“As there is BJD Government here in the State, the BJD-ruled State Government is vehemently against the Centre. BJD Government here simply wishes to harp on the same string of anti-Centre slogan painting it as anti-State in a bid to thrive politically. The BJD Government apprehends that the Central projects if implemented here will bring name and fame for Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The State Government here is unable to provide the required data and reason for stalling such shiftings. Hence, it is high time the State Government should soon write to the Centre as well as extend the needed support so that the LIC Zonal Office and Text Book Printing Press are not shifted to other State,” the BJP MLA demanded.
