Keonjhar: Two minor boys were killed as an iron-ore laden tipper ran over them here on Wednesday. The mishap took place at Kalimati under Joda police limits today afternoon.
The deceased were identified as Laxman Kumar Bhagat (13), and Kismat Munda (14). While Bhagat was a gupchup seller, Munda was eating at his stall when the speeding tipper ran over the two boys.
The driver of the vehicle fled from the spot following the fatal mishap. According to reports, the vehicle was carrying iron-ore from a mine and heading towards the Nayagarh railway siding.
Locals staged an agitation with the bodies and demanded road safety in the area, apart from compensation for the family of the deceased. Senior police officials rushed to the spot and held discussion with the villagers following which the protest was withdrawn.
