**Bhubaneswar: ** The Naveen Patnaik-led Odisha Government seems to have pulled up its socks to deliver its electoral promises and regain its popularity among the masses.
On Tuesday, the State Cabinet gave its nod for creating water supply infra in Baripada, Sambalpur Rourkela, Jharsuguda at Rs 318 crore to ensure safe drinking water for over 13.92 lakh people. It also approved the proposal to begin work on 100-seated government medical college in Keonjhar.
Another cabinet meeting scheduled on Wednesday in sequel to the meeting which is highly unusual.
With its sudden actions, the State Government has confused the opposition as well.
Speaking on this, BJP MLA Pradeep Purohit hinted at the possibility of an early election in the State.
“Two cabinet meetings in two consecutive days is highly unusual. Seems like BJD is frightened with the growing popularity of BJP and PM Narendra Modi in the State. In next two years, BJP will be much stronger than it is today. Hence they (BJD) can suddenly declare elections in the State here. The sudden pro-activeness of the government is intended to lay the ground work for the election,” the BJP MLA said.
However, the ruling party denied any such possibilities.
“We start preparing for the next election the day after conclusion of one election. We keep working to deliver our electoral promises throughout the tenure. If someone has a problem with it, its very unfortunate,” remarked BJD spokesperson Rabi Narayan Nanda, who is a former MLA and former minister of the party in power here.
