Bhubaneswar: Odisha Police DGP Sunil Bansal on Friday said that the investigation into the murder of state Health Minister Naba Kishore Das on January 29 is taking into consideration all aspects of the crime before coming to any conclusion or filing a chargesheet. He further said that as the probe is being undertaken with an open mind and examining all angles related to the crime, one should not expect the final results anytime soon.
Addressing the media, the DGP said, “A lot of rumours are circulating regarding the motive of the crime. We have all seen on video who killed the Health Minister, but we are yet to ascertain the motive behind the crime. The motive is in the mind of the criminal and I am not competent enough to comment on this without proof.”
“The Crime Branch, State Forensic personnel and others are already working to unravel the motive behind the crime. We have also spoken to the Central Forensic Laboratory (CFL) on this and they have promised to provide us with all help. In fact, a team from the CFL will soon come to Odisha to help us with the investigation,” Bansal said, adding, “This is why we can come to a conclusion on the motive only after collecting enough evidence.”
Replying to a question on whether the accused ASI Gopal Krushna Das, who shot at Naba Das in Jharsuguda on the fateful day, is suffering from bipolar disorder, the DGP said, “His wife has given a statement on this soon after the crime and it is of great importance. But it is more important to know whether Gopal Das had an attack on the morning of the crime or he is still suffering from the condition. Once we have answers to these questions, we will be able to talk about the motive behind the crime.”
The DGP also avoided answering questions on whether the mastermind of the crime was any other person or the crime was related to the minister’s coal transporting business or political rivalry.
