Bhubaneswar: Under the supervision of the Jagatsinghpur Sub-Divisional Police Office, three police teams have launched a manhunt to nab the accused in a gangrape case that shocked Jagatsinghpur district on Monday, informed Superintendent of Police Bhawani Sankar Udgata.
“Our teams conducted overnight raids to capture the accused. One team successfully arrested an accused from Cuttack’s Niali, and efforts are underway to apprehend the other accused,” the SP told the media.
As per reports, the 18-year-old victim was reportedly intercepted and sexually assaulted by two men while heading to a friend’s birthday celebration. She is currently undergoing treatment at Jagatsinghpur District Headquarters Hospital in a critical condition, according to sources.
The victim was heading to a friend’s birthday celebration with another friend when the incident occurred. While her friend escaped, the assailants allegedly dragged the victim to a secluded area and raped her. She returned home bleeding, just 400 meters from her residence, and informed her family about the assault. Her family immediately rushed her to the hospital in an ambulance, said sources.
Following a complaint filed by her father, Jagatsinghpur Sadar police launched an investigation and recovered a mobile phone from the crime scene.
Meanwhile, the victim’s friend and the friend’s mother are being grilled for more information.
