Bhubaneswar: Police today organised a significant one-day Central Range Level Workshop on Women Empowerment and Prevention of Human Trafficking at the Goutam Buddha Sanskruti Bhawan complex in Jajpur.

The workshop was inaugurated by Dr. Satyajit Naik, Inspector General of Police (IGP), Central Range, who lit the traditional lamp as the chief guest. The event focused on detailed discussions about existing legal mechanisms to combat human trafficking, ensure child protection, and promote women empowerment. Participants prepared a comprehensive roadmap to generate widespread societal awareness and eradicate the menace through better inter-departmental coordination.

Speaking on the occasion, Jajpur District Collector Ambar Kumar Kar emphasised that the safety, security, and dignity of women and children remain top priorities for the government. He stressed the need for intensive public awareness campaigns not only in urban areas but also at the grassroots village level, calling for seamless collaboration among all departments to effectively prevent human trafficking.

The high-level workshop saw active participation from senior officers including the District Collector, Superintendent of Police (SP), Additional SP, District Child Protection Officer, and officers from all police stations in Jajpur district. Senior police officials from neighbouring districts under the Central Range — Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Kendrapara, Nayagarh, and Khordha — also attended in large numbers. They shared valuable field experiences, best practices, and challenges, making the deliberations highly interactive and productive.

Officials described the workshop as a timely initiative that will strengthen the collective resolve to protect vulnerable sections of society and create a safer environment for women and children across the region.
