Jajpur: A disturbing case has surfaced from Totasahi under Badasuar panchayat within Jajpur town police limits, where a person has accused his estranged wife of selling their 7-year-old son for ₹18,000.
The alleged incident reportedly took place four years ago.
According to neighbour Amiya Kumar Parida, Prashant Parida and Puja Parida separated due to marital discord, after which the alleged sale of their child occurred. Puja reportedly was living with her parents after being separated from her husband.
According to a neighbour of the complainant, the accused mother, Puja, had taken up work as a domestic helper after her separation from Prashant. During this period, she reportedly fell ill and, facing dire circumstances, allegedly sold her son for ₹18,000 to a woman named Sili, who is said to be the sister of Puja’s employer.
“Four years after their separation, when Puja returned to her parents’ home, Prashant visited her to see their son. Upon inquiring about the child, Puja made a shocking revelation, admitting that she had sold their son for ₹18,000”, Amiya stated.
Prashant recently lodged a formal complaint with the Jajpur District Collector, seeking justice and the recovery of his son.
Meanwhile, the Additional District Collector has confirmed that the District Child Protection Unit has been instructed to conduct a thorough investigation into the allegations.
The District Child Protection Unit is probing the circumstances surrounding the incident and verifying the claims of child sale.
