Jajpur: Jajpur SP on Tuesday suspended two ASIs and two constables of the Kalinganagar police station in Odisha’s Jajpur district for their alleged involvement in the escape of an accused from the premises of Jajpur District Killingnagar police station.
The suspended ASIs are Achutananda Das and Lakshmidhar Raj, while action has been taken against constables Ram Murmu and Prashant Kumar.
According to reports, an accused named Chakra Behera, who was arrested in a robbery case, escaped from the police station on December 5 after breaking the exhaust fan in the toilet. Chakra Behera was detained in connection with a robbery incident in the local Shalijunga area
On December 5, the police arrested Chakra Behera from Sobra village under Jajpur Road police limits and took him to the police station. On the same night, the accused went to the toilet, broke the exhaust fan of the toilet, and escaped from captivity allegedly owing to the dereliction of duty by the four police personnel.
