Cuttack: The Odisha State Commission for Women (OSCW) has sought a Crime Branch probe on the alleged suicide of Smitarani Biswal, Village Level Worker (VLW) and in-charge Panchayat Extension Officer of Haridaspur gram panchayat.
OSCW Chairperson Minati Behera today termed the alleged suicide of Smitarani as a sensitive case and twice has the Commission conducted probe over it. Following it the Commission wrote to the DGP on Friday to conduct a Crime Branch probe of the case.
Behera urged that such sensitive matters should not be politicized and let the probe be conducted as per the legal system. “After the probe conducted by the Commission we felt the need of a Crime Branch probe and asked the DGP for the same therefore can’t give any further comments in this regard,” she added.
