Jaleswar: As incessant rainfall continues to batter several districts in Odisha, the water level in the Jalaka River of Balasore district crossed the danger mark near Mathani area on Thursday.
As per reports, the danger mark of the river near Mathani under Basta Block is 5.50 meters. However, following the incessant rainfall, the water level was recorded at 6.21 meters this afternoon at 3 pm.
Following the extreme rainfall, the water level has also increased in the upper course of the river in the Mayurbhanj district. The water level has increased in Suliapada, Morada, Chitrada, and Rasagobindapur areas of the district.
Due to active low-pressure conditions, it is predicted that rainfall will continue for the next two days which may trigger a flash flood situation in low-lying areas. Moreover, river embankment breaches have also triggered panic among locals residing close to the river bank. As many as 12 panchayats under Basta and Sadar block will likely be affected.
