Bhubaneswar: Acting on a tip-off, Jaleswar Police in Odisha’s Balasore district arrested a man (41) and seized 563 grams of brown sugar worth about Rs 56,00,000 from his possession on Saturday.
According to reports, the Jaleswar Police received information that brown sugar was being transported in a Yamaha FZ motorcycle from West Bengal to Jaleswar. The police immediately conducted a raid and set up a blockade at the Ambiatha area under Jaleswar police limits.
During interrogation, the arrested accused confessed that he hailed from Tajpur under Contai police limits in East Medinipur district of West Bengal and had procured the brown sugar from Kharagpur in West Bengal.
The police also seized his motorcycle, a mobile phone, Rs 700 in cash, and a black airbag from the accused. Further investigation into the case is underway, police said.
