Bhubaneswar: The Jeypore forest division has launched its inaugural crocodile census, covering the Kolab and Shaberi rivers.
The survey, conducted from January 6 to 8, involved eight teams in four of the six forest ranges. Forest officer Subbendu Behera stated that the state forest department directed the count, aiming to assess the crocodile population.
On January 7, a crocodile was spotted at Kenduguda Ghat, with hopes of finding its cubs in the area. Guptaswar forest officer Bishnu Randhari said eight teams were formed to search for crocodiles in the Shaberi river. This effort marks a significant step in wildlife conservation in the region.
