**Bhubaneswar:** A commander of banned Maoist faction People’s Liberation Front of India (PLFI) was killed in a police encounter in Jhapla forest of Jharkhand early today morning.
The deceased identified as Bijay Dang was a resident of Rayabaga village of Sundergarh district. Acting on a tip-off, security forces targeted the dreaded PLFI commander during a combing operation in the Jhapla forest 45 km away from Biramitrapur at around 12 am last night.
Dang, who was hiding in the forest with his associates, died during the exchange of fire. Sources said that an associate of Dang accompanying him also received bullet injuries during the encounter, however, he couldn’t be traced.
Reportedly, Dang was leading the banned outfit in Sundergarh district of Odisha and Simdega district in Jharkhand. He was involved in several criminal cases including extortion and murder.
