Bhubaneswar: In the backdrop of the violent clash in Jharpada jail on Tuesday, the prison authorities have sought permission from the court to shift 20 inmates including accused Chakradhar Barik alias Chakara and Sambhunath Barik alias Sambhu to some other jail.
As per reports, DG (Prisons) AM Prasad has sought permission to shift 20 inmates including Chakara and Sambhu of Jharpada jail to some other prison.
The DG (Prisons) has reportedly said that negligence on the part of the Jharpada jail authorities has been detected and the inquiry report has already been sent to the Home Department.
DIG (Prisons) Anusuya Jena and Senior Superintendent DN Barik visited Jharpada jail and conducted the inquiry.
The Commissionerate Police on Wednesday conducted a raid at Jharpada jail and seized gutkhas, beedis, khaini, etc. The raid was conducted following a group clash between the inmates on Tuesday.
The clash reportedly occurred between Chakradhar Barik’s group and Shambhunath Barik’s group on Tuesday. In the clash, Shambhunath Barik was severely injured and was rushed to the Capital Hospital. Jharpada jail authorities lodged an FIR at the Laxmisagar police station in this connection.
