Bhubaneswar: The jail authorities in Odisha suspended two staff of Jharpada Jail in Bhubaneswar in connection with a group clash at the jail in Bhubaneswar on March 17.
The jail authorities suspended Warden Prabhat Kumar Maharana and Chief Warden Manguli Sethi of Jharpada Special Jail for alleged dereliction of duty.
As per reports, three prisoners of the jail – Charaka Chakara Barik, Papu, and Jaga attacked another inmate Shambhunath Barik on the night of March 17 night following a quarrel over alleged illegal narcotics trade inside the prison. Shambunath Barik was injured in the incident and admitted to the Capital Hospital in the capital city.
The jail authorities suspended Warden Prabhat, who was on duty at the high-security cell that night, for allegedly favouring Chakara Barik. The CCTV footage of the incident showed that Prabhat had set Chakara free without keeping a vigil on his activities inside the prison.
Chief Warden Manguli Sethi was also on night duty during the incident and responsible for checking the alleged narcotics trade inside the jail.
