Jharsuguda Airport Be Named After Noted Freedom Fighter Veer Surendra Sai: Odisha CM Reiterates Request

**Bhubaneswar: ** Reiterating Odisha Government’s request, Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik has urged Civil Aviation Minister Suresh Prabhu to name Jharsuguda Airport after eminent freedom fighter Veer Surendra Sai.

“The State Government has been requesting that Jharsuguda Airport be named after Veer Surendra Sai, a well known freedom fighter of Odisha who hailed from the place. I would like to reiterate the request that Government of India may consider naming the Jharsuguda Airport as ‘Veer Surendra Sai Airport, Jharsuguda’, which would be a befitting tribute to the legendary son of the soil,” mentions the Chief Minister in his letter.

The Odisha CM has also mentioned, “I am glad that the development of Jharsuguda Airport has been completed and it will be formally inaugurated and dedicated to the nation on 22nd September, 2018. I am thankful for your invitation to the grace the occasion, which I heartily accept.”

The CM’s letter also mentions, “I am also happy to know that UDAN flight will be flagged off by Hon’ble Prime Minister of India on 22nd September, 2018.”

“You might be aware that Jharsuguda is located strategically in an industrial and mining belt of Odisha. Keeping in view the growing importance of this city in the western Odisha, I would request you to kindly consider introduction of commercial flights to Jharsuguda. To begin with, one of Air India flights from Bhubaneswar to Delhi may be routed through Jharsuguda,” the Odisha Chief Minister also urges.
