Jharsuguda: About 9.75 per cent electorate cast their votes in the Jharsuguda Assembly constituency by-poll till 9.00 am on Wednesday, the Chief Electoral Officer Nikunja Bihari Dhal informed.
“There is tremendous enthusiasm among the voters in all sections including women, senior citizens and youths. We are welcoming the senior citizens by giving them roses,” Dhal said.
Polling for the Jharsuguda Assembly constituency started at 7.00 am and is continuing seamlessly in almost all the 253 booths in the constituency.
According to sources, polling was disrupted for a brief period at booth No 62 as the EVM developed a technical glitch an hour after the voting started.
Though nine candidates are in the fray, the contest is mainly between the BJD, BJP, and Congress. The BJD has fielded Dipali Das, while the BJP has nominated Tankadhar Tripathy. The Congress has fielded Tarun Pandey, son of late MLA Biren Pandey.
Jharsuguda SP Smith Parmar said that polling has been peaceful everywhere in the constituency and there has been no law and order problem so far.
