Bhubaneswar: Day temperatures continued to climb across several parts of Odisha on Thursday, with Jharsuguda emerging as the hottest place in the state at 39.6°C for the second consecutive day, according to the evening weather bulletin issued by the India Meteorological Department (IMD), Bhubaneswar.

Several western and interior districts recorded temperatures well above 36°C, indicating a gradual intensification of heat conditions in early March.

Apart from Jharsuguda, Titlagarh recorded 37.5°C, while Paralakhemundi logged 37.2°C and Gopalpur and Dhenkanal both registered 37.1°C. Angul also experienced high temperatures at 36.9°C, followed closely by Hirakud (36.8°C), Bolangir (36.7°C) and Sambalpur (36.6°C).

The state capital Bhubaneswar recorded a maximum temperature of 36.4°C, similar to Talcher, reflecting the rising heat trend in coastal and adjoining regions.

In northern Odisha, Baripada reported 36°C, while coastal stations such as Chandbali and Cuttack recorded 34.6°C each. Temperatures remained relatively lower in some coastal pockets, with Puri recording 32.2°C and Paradip 31°C.

Hill station Daringibadi remained among the coolest places in the state at 31°C, while Koraput and Balasore recorded 32.6°C each.

The IMD said dry weather is very likely to prevail across Odisha over the next few days, with shallow to moderate fog expected in some coastal districts during early morning hours.

Looking ahead, the weather office has indicated the possibility of light rain or thunderstorms at isolated places in northern districts from March 8, accompanied by lightning and gusty surface winds of 30–40 kmph under a Yellow Warning.

The IMD also noted that no major change in maximum temperatures is expected over the next five days, after which temperatures may rise by 2–3°C across the state.
