Jharsuguda: Jharsuguda Police on Sunday arrested a gang of robbers who looted a truck transporting 20 tonnes of iron rods near Panchpada Chhack on the Jharsuguda-Sundargarh Bypass Road. The arrested accused are Pankaj Kumar (27), Ranjan Kumar (22), Ravi Paswan (32) from Bihar, Krishna Sahu (26) from Jharkhand and Roshan Prajapati (21) from Malipada, Jharsuguda.
The police have recovered the truck with iron rods, a country-made gun, two live bullets, a car, four mobile phones, and cash worth Rs 89,200 from the accused.
According to an FIR lodged with Sundargarh police, driver Manoj Sa left the premises of Shyam Metallic and Energy Pvt Ltd with a truck loaded with 20 tons of iron rods for Sundargarh on the evening of October 25. At around 11.00 pm, five miscreants came in a car near Panchpada in Jharsuguda, and intercepted the truck brandished a gun. They tied the Manoj’s hands and feet with a rope and looted the truck along with the iron rods.
Before leaving, the miscreants threw Manoj in an isolated place in Simdega area. After some time, with the help of passers-by, the driver untied the ropes and reached Sundargarh and informed the truck owner Kamlesh Prasad Beniwal about the incident. Kamlesh filed a complaint at the Jharsuguda police station. Acting on the complaint, police registered a case under Sections 310(2) BNS /25 (1) (a)/ 25 (6)/ 27 (1) Arms Act and started an investigation.
The police arrested the accused and produced them in court today, Additional SP, Jharsuguda, said.
