Jharsuguda Villagers Stage Dharna Before Vedanta Gate, Allege Pollution, Demand Jobs

Jharsuguda:   Tension prevailed at the Vedanta factory area here today following the dharna (sit-in protest) staged by the irate villagers alleging pollution and demanding jobs.

Hundreds of villagers of Katikela village in the periphery of Vedanta resorted to the protest today before the gate as they have been alleging pollution caused by the factory since long.

They also alleged that the ash pond built at Katikela village is not upto mark as well as unsafe for which the locals have been suffering a lot.

The protesters further demanded that their village should be properly rehabilitated, adequate compensation should be given for the pollution caused and their unemployed youths should be given jobs.

However, Vedanta’s reaction on the incident was not available till the filing of the report.
