Jajpur: The police on Sunday detained at least 25 persons in connection with the attack on journalists during Panchayat elections in Binjharpur block. Among the detainees were five women, reports stated.

Four journalists were attacked while covering an alleged incident of booth rigging while the third phase of three-tier rural polls were underway. In the wake of the incident, senior journalists met the State Election Commissioner at Bhubaneswar and demanded stringent action against the perpetrators of violence.

While several people were detained and an inquiry ordered, police carried out a flag March in Bachelo panchayat. Meanwhile, male members of the villages have fled and women are staying indoors, reports stated.
