Bhubaneswar: JSW Foundation has awarded the Udaan Fellowship to 104 meritorious students of Keonjhar and Sundergarh districts encouraging them to go further for higher studies. The fellowships were awarded at a programme, held in Barbil on Wednesday.
The fellowship was awarded to the students by Padma Shri Tulasi Munda, a renowned social activist from Odisha. She congratulated the students and said this scholarship program would certainly motivate the students to study sincerely and do something noble for the societies.
Foundation officials said that the scholarship will boost confidence among students to achieve their goals.
The fellowship was distributed among 104 students who come under the direct impact zone (DIZ) of JSW’s mines. As part of the fellowship, an amount of around Rs 26 lakh was disbursed among the students. JSW Foundation has collaborated with NSDL so that there can transparency and scrutiny in depositions.
Scholarship winners thanked the company for executing the initiative. “This scholarship helped me to cover my study expenses,” said Ranjit Barik from Rugudi. Another student, Tushar Sekhar Mahanta, who pursue MBA (HR) in PMIR said, “Such initiative in this area would encourage student like me to go for higher studies. Scholarship is big boost for me.”
The students were selected through the criteria of having 50% marks scored in the annual examination conducted by the respective institutions. Selected students are being provided scholarships in across the courses. The scholarship shall be renewed every year. Around 22 students have received renewal amounts under this scholarship this year.
