Angul: An elephant was killed after being hit by a speeding train from Shalima near Dehurisahi in the Jharpada forest range in Odisha’s Angul district on Thursday night.
According to reports, the jumbo was hit by the train when it was crossing the Angul-Sambalpur railway track in Chendipada block. The incident occurred near Jereng village, about 100 meters from the Jharpada railway over-bridge on the Chendipada-Jharpada road. Pieces of the carcass were strewn all over the place. According to Forest department staff, they will be collected on Friday and sent for post-mortem.
On being informed, Forest Department personnel and Railways staff rushed to the spot and conducted a preliminary investigation into the gruesome death of the elephant. However, since it was late in the night, the investigation was delayed till Friday morning.
