Cuttack: In yet another elephant menace reported in the State, an elderly farmer of Choudwar area was found trampled to death in the paddy field this early morning.
While the deceased has been identified as Ratnakar Behera of Budhalinga village of Agrahat gram panchayat (GP) in the district here, the tragic incident took place at his Bharandi-based agricultural field.
Reports said, Ratnakar had been there to harvest paddy from his land early morning when he encountered a herd of elephants. An elephant reportedly chased him and trampled him to death.
Following such an incident, the villagers rushed to the spot and were seen raising hackles at the allegedly callous attitude of forest officials.
The irate locals as well as the bereft family members staged a protest demanding compensation.
