Jumbo Tramples Sleeping Tribal Woman To Death
**Rourkela (Sundargarh): ** In a tragic incident, a tribal woman was trampled to death by a wild elephant while she was sleeping in her house on Tuesday night. The incident has taken place in Kopasinga under Bisra Forest Range of Rourkela Forest Division in Sundargarh district.
The deceased has been identified as Padma Munda.
As per reports, the jumbo damaged the house first and dragged Padma out of her house while she was sleeping and trampled her to death on the spot.
Demanding adequate compensation for the bereft kin, irate villagers staged a road blockade.
Since three persons have been killed by the wild pachyderms within the last one week in the locality, the death of this tribal woman has created panic among the locals.
Enraged villagers alleged that the forest officials are not taking any initiative to drive out the elephants from the area.
Reports said that a herd of wild elephants has been reportedly creating havoc in the Rourkela Forest Division for the last couple of days.
The wild elephants have reportedly ransacked agricultural fields and destroyed several acres of standing crops. They have also damaged houses.
