Junior Clerk, Retired Peon Convicted In Bribery Case

Bhubaneswar: A former Junior Clerk who was posted in the office of Block Education Officer, Harabhanga in Boudh district and a retired Peon was convicted by a Phulbani Court in connection with a Vigilance case on Tuesday.

The Junior Clerk, Pradeep Kumar Dalabehera, who is working at Adenigada High School in Harabhanga block and the ex-Peon Dandadhar Dehury were facing trial in the Court of Special Judge, Vigilance, Phulbani. The case, involving acceptance of an illegal gratification of Rs 2,000 was filed by Berhampur Vigilance division in March 2017.

“The demand was made to release EPF money in favour of the complainant’s father,” the Vigilance stated.

The Court of Special Judge, Vigilance, Phulbani convicted Dalabehera and Dehury and sentenced them to undergo rigorous imprisonment for a period of 3 years and to pay fine of Rs 5,000. And in default of payment of fine, to undergo further rigorous imprisonment for a period of 6 months each for the offence under Section 7 Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988, the Vigilance added further.

P Chatria, Inspector Vigilance, Berhampur Division had investigated the case and VV Ramdas, Special PP, Vigilance, Phulbani conducted the case on behalf of the prosecution.
