Bhubaneswar: Vigilance today arrested a Junior Engineer for taking bribe in Bolangir district.
Junior Engineer (JE) of Deogaon block in Bolangir district was arrested by the Vigilance for demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs 5,000 from a complainant, for clearing his pending bill towards the construction of cow shed built under Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (MGNREGS), said an official press release.
Mandal was caught by the Vigilance at her rented house while demanding and accepting the bribe from the complainant.
The bribe money was recovered and seized from Mandal’s possession in presence of witnesses.
Wash of the surface of drawing table in her rented residential house gave positive chemical reaction, confirming acceptance and handling of bribe money by her.
Following Mandal’s apprehension, the anti-corruption agency launched searches at her rented house in Bolangir town and office room at Deogaon block.
A case has been registered against her at the Sambalpur Vigilance police station under section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption (Amendment) Act of 2018 and is under investigation.
