Bhubaneswar: Justice Chakradhari Sharan Singh is scheduled to take oath as the Chief Justice of Orissa High Court on Wednesday.
Justice Singh was serving as the acting Chief Justice of Patna High Court. The Centre notified on February 2 appointing him as the new Chief Justice of Orissa High Court.
Justice Singh will assume charge from the acting Chief Justice of Orissa High Court Justice Bidyut Ranjan Sarangi, who was appointed to the post on October 4, 2023.
Born on January 20, 1963, Justice Chakradhari Sharan Singh was enrolled as an advocate on October 30, 1990, after having obtained an LL.B. Degree from the University of Delhi (Campus Law Centre). He was appointed as Additional Standing Counsel of the central government in 1998 and continued until October 2001.
Justice Singh was empanelled as Counsel for Patna High Court on its administrative side during the initial years of his practice. He practiced mainly in service, Constitutional, and criminal matters and also dealt with cases under Central Excise, Customs, and Labour Laws. He was appointed as panel counsel by the Comptroller and Auditor General of India for conducting cases on behalf of the Accountant General Office in Patna High Court.
He received training as a mediator in 2006 and was appointed mediator for Patna High Court Mediation Centre. Justice Singh was designated Senior Advocate with effect from September 18, 2010, and was appointed as Additional Advocate General, Government of Bihar in December 2010. He continued as such till his elevation as an Additional Judge at Patna High Court with effect from April 4, 2012. He assumed the charge as Acting Chief Justice, Patna High Court on February 6, 2023.
