Bhubaneswar: Justice Harish Tandon has been appointed as the next Chief Justice of the Orissa High Court. Ministry of Law and Justice Department of Justice (Appointments Division) has issued a notification regarding this development today.
“In exercise of the pounce conferred by clause (I) of Article 217 of the Constitution of India, the President is pleased to appoint Shri Justice Harish Tandon, Judge of the Calcutta High Court, to be Chief Justice of the Orissa High Court, with effect from the date he assumes charge of his office”, read the notification.
Currently serving as a judge at the Calcutta High Court, Justice Tandon’s elevation was recommended by the Supreme Court collegium earlier this month.
The Supreme Court Collegium on March 6 had recommended the appointment of the Calcutta High Court judge as Chief Justice of the Orissa High Court. The recommendation was made following the retirement of Chief Justice Chakradhari Sharan Singh on January 19.
Notably, Justice Harish Tandon was appointed as a judge of the Calcutta High Court on April 13, 2010 and has served there since. He ranks seventh in the All-India Seniority of High Court Judges and is a senior puisne judge in his parent High Court.
