Kalahandi Chhatar Yatra Amid Covid: Prohibitory Orders Issued Against Large Public Gatherings

Kalahandi: In a bid to contain the spread of Coronavirus infection and ensure no danger to public life, health and safety, Kalahandi district administration has issued prohibitory orders against large public gatherings in view of the annual Chhatar Yatra during the ongoing festive season and its related pre and post rituals.

Kalahandi Collector Gavali Parag Harshad has passed the following prohibitory orders under Section 144 of CrPC.

1. Entry to Bhawanipatna Municipality area will be allowed only for medical/emergency purpose and any other purpose specifically allowed for from 23.10.2020 to 25.10.2020.
2. Movement and gathering of people are restricted to four (04) persons at any point of time in the township from 12.00 am (midnight) of 23.10.2020 to 12.00 am (midnight) of 25.10.2020.
The order shall remain in force from 12.00 am (midnight of 22.10.2020 to 12.00 am (midnight) of 25.10.2020.

All the Executive Magistrate, Officers, officials of essential service departments carrying valid ID proofs/movement pass shall be exempted from the purview of the order.
Any person contravening this order will be prosecuted under the Section of 188 of IPC, warned the Order passed by the district administration.

Kalahandi Collector Gavali Parag Harshad told media, “I convey my greetings and good wishes to one and all on the occasion of Chhatar Yatra and Durga Puja. You are well aware of the fact that the Covid positive cases are increasing on a daily basis in Kalahandi district. Hence, the district administration, in consultation with all, has decided that this time public participation won’t be allowed during the Chhatar Yatra.”

He informed, “Live telecast of Chhatar Yatra will be done by the district administration via social media and news channels. Thus, all the devotees can have the darshan of Maa at their homes.”
He added, “Section 144 has been clamped. It is our collective responsibility to defeat Corona pandemic. Hence, I urge all to remain at home and be safe. Let’s protect Kalahandi district from Coronavirus.”

In his media reactions, Kalahandi SP B. Gangadhar said, “All the rituals will be solemnized. Only one Ghumra party and another drummers party will be allowed in the procession to and fro Maa Manikeshwari Mandir and Jenakhal. No public entry or gathering. We’re going to impose Section 144 of CrPC. No one from outside Bhawanipatna will be allowed entry. We’ll seal Bhawanipatna town that day. We request all not to come to Bhawanipatna town on that day.”

“This time we have to deploy extra police force due to the prohibitory orders. Already we have launched a massive public awareness that no one should offer animal sacrifice on that day. For that purpose, we will be sealing the town here and adequate police bandobast will be in place,” the SP made it clear.
