Puri: In the presence of lakhs of farmers from over 314 blocks of the State, Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik launched KALIA scheme in Malatipatpur here today afternoon and released funds to over 12 lakh farmers in the first phase. After the launch event, he addressed the gathering and said that the scheme is a milestone and will pave the path for entire nation.

He said, “You are providing food to all the State. The grains and vegetables you produce are being used in Lord Jagannath’s ‘Mahaprasad’. It is a great deed, a noble deed. Therefore, I have given the name of this scheme ‘KALIA’ and before launching the scheme, I took the blessings of the Lord today.”

The CM also announced that farmers will get their entitlement under KALIA scheme twice in a year- once on Akshaya Tritiya for Kharif season and on Nuakhai for Rabi season.

“For Odisha’s development, this is a milestone and no one can hinder its progress. This scheme will help you in your farming activities and you and your family will progress. 92 per cent of the State's farmers will reap benefits from this scheme. This program will pave the path for the entire nation as everybody countrywide is appreciating the scheme,” he concluded.

It is notable to mention here that Krushak Assistance for Livelihood and Income Augmentation (KALIA), State Government's flagship scheme for farmers, has received widespread praise and appreciation. After a big debate on whether loan waivers are actually beneficial, the Centre too was considering to launch KALIA nationwide in a new avatar.
