Bhubaneswar: Deputy Chief Minister Pravati Parida on Monday inaugurated Kalika, a dedicated crèche facility at Kharavel Bhawan designed to offer safe, nurturing day-care support for the children of working mothers and staff. The initiative is aimed at strengthening work–life balance within government establishments and marks a significant step toward fostering inclusive and empathetic workplace ecosystems in Odisha.
Equipped with colourful activity zones, trained caregivers and an environment tailored for learning, play and emotional well-being, Kalika has been envisioned as a space where children can blossom while parents — especially mothers — can carry out their professional duties without stress.
DC-cum-Additional Chief Secretary Anu Garg, speaking at the event, said, “Kalika is an important intervention in building a workplace where motherhood and professional responsibility go hand in hand. When employees feel supported, productivity and dignity grow together.”
Usha Padhee, Principal Secretary of the Housing & Urban Development Department, emphasised the larger cultural significance of the initiative. “A child-friendly space like Kalika sends a message — that care is part of our work culture. This initiative will ease the lives of working mothers and foster an environment where children can flourish with love, learning and security,” she said.
Senior officials and staff of the Housing & Urban Development Department were present during the inauguration, reaffirming the government’s commitment to employee welfare and child-centred facilities. The Administrative Officer and the crèche caretaker also attended the event.
With Kalika, the Odisha government reinforces its vision for a modern, compassionate workplace — one that boosts productivity while nurturing the next generation.
