Bhubaneswar: The Kalinga Ghati Road, a crucial stretch of road connecting Kandhamal and Ganjam districts, has finally reopened to traffic after a prolonged closure due to a landslide.
According to reports, the ghati road, which was closed for over a month, has seen two-wheelers and light vehicles plying on it once again. The reopening of the ghati has brought joy to the locals and travellers, who had been facing immense difficulties due to the closure of the road.
The National Highway (NH) authority had undertaken repair work on the ghati road, which has been completed, according to Prashant Sahu, Assistant Executive Engineer of National Highway.
Although the administration has not officially announced the reopening of the ghati road, light vehicles have started plying on it. Sahu informed that the repair work at the landslide site has been completed, and the Kandhamal Collector has been intimated about it through a letter.
The Kandhamal and Ganjam Collectors are expected to jointly inspect the ghati and officially announce its reopening. While most of the repair work has been completed, the construction of a guard wall is still pending.
The reopening of the Kalinga Ghati is a significant relief for the people of the region, who had been facing difficulties in commuting due to the closure.
