Kandhamal Killings: No Impact Of 2-Day Maoist Bandh Call In Kandhamal

**Phulbani:** The two-day bandh call, given by the Maoists in the district here protesting the shocking deaths of five innocent villagers allegedly during an anti-Maoist operation in Malapanga forest near Kurtamgarh in Kandhamal district, had no impact here on its first day as normal life was witnessed as usual in the district headquarters town here.

Though government bus movement was halted on account of the bandh, vehicular traffic remained normal.

Keeping in mind the Maoist-bandh call, security has been beefed up in both the districts.
Kandhamal Police is on high alert and prepared to deal with the situation.

Police have set up check posts and are checking all vehicles plying in these two districts.
Notably, the Maoists have called for a two-day bandh in Kandhamal and adjoining Rayagada districts beginning today.

Maoists posters were seen at various places in both the districts in which the secretary of the Basdhara, Ghumusur and Nagabali division Umakant has strongly condemned the attacks on civilians and has demanded Rs 25 lakh compensation to the kin of the deceased.

Maoists have also demanded Rs 10 lakh compensation for the injured and registration of murder cases against the concerned police officials.
