Bhubaneswar: A group of unidentified youths at Kereda village in Kandhamal district allegedly gang-raped a woman over past enmity.
Though the incident occurred on Sunday last, it came to the fore after the victim lodged a complaint with the Sadar Police here.
In her FIR, the survivor alleged that unknown miscreants broke open into her house on Sunday evening, vandalized her car and took turns on her. The woman claimed that her husband was away when the incident took place.
According to the complaint, the miscreants assaulted her sexually over the past enmity.
In her complaint, she alleged that while she was out in the market, an unidentified man had made derogatory remarks against Hinduism religion in an inebriated state some two months back. This led to an altercation with the man as she raised her voice against his behaviour. The survivor alleged that accused and his accomplices gang-raped her to revenge his humiliation.
Inspector-in-charge of Sadar police said an investigation is underway and stringent action will be taken against the culprits.
Meanwhile, the Sadar police station IIC Samir Rout said, “A woman has lodged a complaint alleging that some people of Kereda village barged into her house on Monday night and sexually assaulted her over previous enmity. We have registered a case (12/2022) and an investigation is underway.”
