Bhawanipatna: In a disturbing incident of vigilantism, a young man was brutally beaten up by a group of youths, including some young women, for making obscene comments on social media at Pandi village under Kalampur police station of Kalahandi district.
The incident occurred after some young women from the village posted a video of themselves dancing during the Raja festival, and the victim Babula Naik made derogatory comments on their posts.
A video of the assault, which shows the victim being held by two youths while two girls beat him mercilessly, has gone viral on social media. Naik is currently undergoing treatment at the District Headquarters Hospital in Bhawanipatna with serious injuries.
Following a complaint lodged by Naik’s mother, the police have arrested four girls and two boys in connection with the assault. The accused have been forwarded to court after a medical examination.
The incident has been widely disapproved by intellectuals, who have condemned the act of taking the law into one’s own hands.
The Dharmagarh SDPO in-charge confirmed that a case has been registered, and four accused, including two women, have been arrested. Naik’s mother had lodged a complaint regarding the assault on her son.
