Bhubaneswar: Bollywood filmmaker Karan Johar’s production house, Dharma Productions, has announced plans to remake the Odia film ‘Bou Buttu Bhuta’, starring Babushaan Mohanty and Archita Sahu.
The film, released on June 12, 2025, became the highest-grossing Odia film of all time.
According to a public notice published in the Film Information magazine, Dharma Productions has initiated the process of acquiring the remake rights of ‘Bou Buttu Bhuta’ in all Indian and world languages. The acquisition includes derivative rights, allowing the production house to develop, produce, distribute, and exploit remakes across multiple platforms.
The notice states that Babushaan Films Private Limited, the production company behind the original film, is the sole and lawful owner of all intellectual property rights related to ‘Bou Buttu Bhuta’. Any interested parties with claims to the remake rights are required to submit their claims in writing within 15 days of the notice’s publication.
‘Bou Buttu Bhuta’ is a horror-thriller-comedy film that tells the story of a fish farmer who gets possessed by a ghost, leading to chaos in the village. The film features Babushaan Mohanty, Archita Sahu, and Aparajita Mohanty in key roles. Directed by Jagdish Mishra and written by Mohammad Aran, the film has received positive reviews for its unique storyline and rural setting.
