Kendrapada: Akshay Kumar Parida, the Tehsildar of Debarish in Odisha’s Kendrapada district sustained serious injuries in an attack by the sand mafia on Wednesday.
According to an FIR lodged by the Tehsildar at the Kendrapada Sadar police station, on being informed that some people were transporting sand illegally, Parida along with other officials of the Tehsil reached Gulasingh Circle and found a truck laden with sand. When Parida asked the driver of the truck to produce the Y-form, the latter showed him a Y-form that did not have the time, date or place where precisely the sand was being transported.
When the Tahsildar directed the driver to take the truck to the Tehsil office, some people attacked Parida and his office staff near Thakurpatna and even threatened to mow them under the vehicle. The Tahsildar and his colleagues were seriously injured in the incident.
Parida alleged that the sand mafia also took their vehicle under their control in a bid to prevent them from leaving the place.
In his complaint, Parida has prayed for stringent action against the accused for attacking the government officials on duty and preventing them from carrying out their tasks.
