Bhubaneswar: Odisha Vigilance sleuths apprehended Dhirendra Mohanty, Secretary of Mahu Co-operative Society, Aul in Kendrapara district, while accepting a bribe of Rs 10,000 from a loanee farmer on Wednesday.
According to reports, Mohanty had demanded Rs 20,000 from the farmer to hand over the loan passbook and cheque book for a loan amount of Rs 75,000 sanctioned to the farmer and his father.
Being a poor farmer, the complainant expressed his inability to pay Rs 20,000. After negotiation, accused Mohanty reduced the bribe amount to Rs 10,000, which Mohanty accepted from the farmer at his office.
Upon being informed, Vigilance sleuths laid a trap and caught Mohanty red-handed while receiving the bribe. The Vigilance team also recovered the entire bribe amount from Mohanty’s possession and seized it. Searches are being conducted at two locations linked to Mohanty from a disproportionate assets angle.
A case has been registered against Mohanty under the Prevention of Corruption Act, and an investigation is underway.
