Bhubaneswar: A second-year diploma student at a private college in Bhubaneswar allegedly committed suicide after losing money in an online game.
According to reports, Sahil was the only son of Umakant Jena, a resident of Bangari village under Kudanagari police station limits in Kendrapara district.
Sahil was on vacation at his home when he got hooked on online gaming. After losing a significant amount of money, he reportedly consumed pesticide.
It is believed that Sahil consumed pesticide reportedly out of fear of facing his family’s reaction to his losses in online gaming. This suggests that the pressure and potential consequences of his actions, as perceived by Sahil, led him to take this extreme step.
Sahil was rushed to Patakura hospital and later referred to SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack. Unfortunately, he succumbed to his injuries on the way.
Sahil’s parents are devastated after losing their only son. The incident has raised growing concerns about the risks associated with online gaming and the need for awareness about mental health.
