Keonjhar: In a thrilling turn of events, a youth from Revenshapur village in Keonjhar district has struck it big in the world of fantasy sports. Guru Charan Jamuda (29) won an incredible Rs 3 crore by playing on a fantasy sports app during an IPL match, having invested just Rs 49.
Guru Charan’s fortune changed overnight when he received a call and an email from the Mumbai-based fantasy sports app manager, who congratulated him on his life-changing win.
In addition to the Rs 3 crore prize, Guru Charan will also receive a Mahindra Thar.
The news of Guru Charan’s win has spread like wildfire, bringing immense joy to his family and the entire village. His relatives, neighbors, and villagers celebrated the occasion with traditional dances and cake cutting, marking the beginning of a new chapter in his life.
Guru Charan, who hails from a family of five brothers, has faced his share of hardships. A few years ago, his family was displaced by the Kanupur Irrigation Project, receiving only Rs 8 lakh as compensation.
Despite the financial setback, the brothers managed to build a new home and supported themselves by working in nearby iron ore mines. However, due to the ongoing economic downturn, Guru Charan had to halt construction of their house midway.
Now, with his newfound wealth, Guru Charan plans to complete the construction of his home and help others in need within his community.
“I had to stop building my house because of financial issues, but now I will finish it,” he said. “I also want to help those who are struggling, just like we did.”
Speaking about his journey into fantasy sports, Guru Charan shared, “Due to unemployment last year, I decided to try my luck in fantasy sports. I spent months researching and learning about it through YouTube tutorials before I started playing.” He continued, “When I woke up and saw Rs 3 crore in my account, I could not believe it. I immediately woke up my elder brother to confirm if it was real.”
Guru Charan’s win came during the March 25th IPL match between Punjab Kings (PBKS) and Gujarat Titans (GT), in which PBKS triumphed by 11 runs. His Rs 49 investment in creating a fantasy cricket team earned him the Rs 3 crore prize.
While stories like Guru Charan’s are inspiring, experts caution that such success often requires a combination of research, strategy, and luck—factors not guaranteed for everyone.
