Bhubaneswar: The cyber wing of the State Crime Branch on Sunday arrested a man from Kerala for cheating a Bhubaneswar resident by falsely promising him a part-time job involving virtual gold bidding.
The arrested person has been identified as Prasad Balan (49), a resident of Valiyakozhipadam in the Palakkad district of Kerala.
According to an official press release, Deepak Nayak from Infocity filed a complaint stating that Balan defrauded him of Rs 54,59,860 through two fraudulent websites — perthmint-bid.com and perthmint-jewellery.com — by promising high returns.
During the arrest, police seized multiple bank documents, ATM cards, cheque books, a mobile phone, a pen drive, and identification documents from Balan’s possession. The accused is reportedly linked to at least 10 similar cases across India.
The police investigation is ongoing.
