Bhubaneswar: Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge on Friday launched a scathing attack on the BJP-led central government, accusing it of attempting to undermine the foundational values of the Constitution.
Speaking at the ‘Samvidhan Bachao Samavesh’ rally in Bhubaneswar, Kharge alleged that the Centre is trying to remove the principles of secularism and socialism from the Constitution. He also warned that dalits, tribals, and youth will have to rise and fight for their rights under the BJP regime.
“The BJP government at the Centre is attempting to omit secularism and socialism from our Constitution,” Kharge said, addressing a large gathering of Congress workers and supporters.
The Congress chief further claimed that BJP supporters were involved in attacks on dalits and government officials in Odisha, accusing the party of fostering a climate of intimidation.
“The BJP will wipe out dalits, tribals and youths unless they learn to fight for their rights,” he warned.
Kharge also took aim at the Centre’s economic policies, stating that while the Congress had established 160 public sector undertakings (PSUs), the BJP government has privatised 23 of them, undermining public assets built over decades.
The event was part of the Congress’s nationwide campaign to “protect the Constitution” and mobilise support against the BJP ahead of key state and national elections.
