Bhubaneswar: The Odisha government has extended the Kharif paddy procurement period by seven days to ensure that no farmer’s token lapses during the ongoing season.
Announcing the decision, Food Supplies and Consumer Welfare Minister Krushna Chandra Patra emphasised that the extension was aimed at protecting the interests of farmers. He stated that the move would allow all registered farmers to sell their produce without any disruption.
So far in the current Kharif season, the state has procured 77 lakh metric tonnes of paddy. As many as 18.64 lakh farmers have successfully sold their harvest, with payments of Rs 22,884 crore already transferred directly into their bank accounts.
