Bhubaneswar: After a huge time gap, Khordha district once again today surpassed Ganjam district and reported more COVID-19 cases in the last 24 hours.
While 298 cases were from Khordha, 279 were from Ganjam, tweeted I & PR Department regarding the latest figures.
Since the first COVID-19 case was detected in Odisha on March 19, Khordha had been leading the grim chart of cases with the majority of them from State Capital Bhubaneswar. Later as the inflow of migrants began, the majority of them from Ganjam, the southern district saw a steep surge in cases in the month of May.
As of Friday (August 7), Ganjam has 12,359 confirmed cases with 8911 recoveries and highest of 123 deaths. It has 3317 active cases. Comparatively, Khordha district comes close second with 3175 active cases, 2615 recoveries and 31 deaths. It has a total of 5829 confirmed cases, so far.
The two districts have become the corona hotspots of Odisha with district and state administration doing everything possible to contain the spread of the virus. From weekend shutdowns, lockdowns, door-to-door surveys, the establishment of plasma banks and dedicated COVID hospitals, all moves are being made in an attempt to reduce the effect of COVID-19.
