Bhubaneswar: A youth belonging to Laxmi Sagar area of the city was kidnapped near a tea stall a couple of days back. An hour later, his father Ramroop Agarwal receives a call to arrange Rs 30 lakh and come with the money to a designated spot.
Agarwal was wise enough to report the matter to police and had full faith in the planning and operation of the Commissionerate Police, said Saumendra Priyadarshi, Police Commissioner.
The kidnappers had changed locations at least a dozen times as soon as they made a call. The modus operandi was to hoodwink the police and call tracing efforts, the Police Commissioner said.
“Four teams led by Special Squad ACP Sanjeev Satpathy managed to get hold of the kidnappers after a pursuit of more than 700 kms over a period of two days. The kidnappers were also divided into teams and never stayed at one place with the victim,” Priyadarshi added.
The victim was rescued safely while the kdinappers from different areas of the State have been booked and forwarded to the court. The police is very likely to seek the remand of the accused to ascertain their credentials and records.
