Bhubaneswar: Infocity Police on Tuesday arrested five persons in connection with the alleged suicide of a girl student at KIIT University on February 16. The incident sparked widespread outrage, with students and politicians demanding justice for the deceased student identified as deceased student Prakriti Lamsal.
Five persons including the Director General (Human Resources) Sibananda Mishra, Director (Administration) Pratap Kumar Champati, Director (Hostel) Sudhir Kumar Rath and two security guards Ramakanta Nayak and Jogendra Behera have been arrested by police for their alleged involvement in the incident.
Meanwhile, the Odisha government has constituted a fact-finding committee to investigate the incident.
On the other hand, students of the university continued to stage protests demanding justice for the deceased student.
Meanwhile, legislators cutting across party lines, during discussions in the Assembly on Tuesday, demanded stringent action against the college authorities and all the people involved in the incident.
Notably, Prakriti had ended her life on Sunday afternoon following harassment and blackmail by her estranged boyfriend Advik Shrivastava, a student of B.Tech (Mechanical) hailing from Uttar Pradesh. Police arrested the accused from Bhubaneswar Airport while he was trying to flee the city on Monday.
Till the last report came in, the Judicial Magistrate First Class-2 (JMFC-2) court granted bail to three directors and two security guards.
