“Kin Of Each Deceased To Get Rs 5 Lakh Ex-Gratia”

**Bhubaneswar: ** “The Sikshya O Anusandhan University have decided to give an ex-gratia of Rs 5 lakhs to the kin of the deceased each. Those who had got injured and who had been forced to get treatment in other private hospitals, our university authorities will pay all the expenses of their treatment,” informed Amit Banerjee, Vice-Chancellor, SOA University.

In a major outbreak of fire on Monday evening in Sum Hospital, around 20 people have died and several others injured. Many of the patients were transported to other hospitals like AIIMS, AMRI, Capital Hospital for their treatment.

The government has ordered two inquiries, one headed by the RDC (Central Division) and the other headed by the Director, Medical Education and Training.

The hospital authorities have also instituted an integral inquiry committee to go into the incident to find out the causes of the accident and systemic fault if there were any.
“We shall extend fullest co-operation to these inquiries initiated by the government to find out what exactly happened,” said the VC.

The VC arrived on Tuesday morning from Delhi.

“We have immediately suspended one fire officer, two engineers, and the hospital manager looking into that area,“ informed Banerjee.

Notably, the owner of Sum Hospital and SOA University is Manojranjan Nayak, who also owns an Odia daily, Prameya and the news channel, Prameya News 7.
He seems to have gone underground.
